Ancient Egyptian civilization as we think of it began around 3150 BCE with the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt. The Egyptian pharoahs ruled for long stretches of time known as Kingdoms. Egyptian history is divided into the Old, Middle and New Kingdoms, with intervals of instability known as Intermediate Periods.

Ancient Egyptian architecture is, of course, known for its massive stone monuments and burial tombs. The main building supplies were mud-brick and stone, as there was a shortage of wood. The walls were often plastered over and painted with brightly colored murals. Common homes were mud-brick, painted white and covered with linen wall hangings.

Clothing in Ancient Egypt consisted of simple garments made from white linen sheets. Upper classes wore wigs, makeup and jewelry.. Children actually did not wear anything until they came of age at 12.
